I am the youngest of 4 in my family, and we are Marten clan. We are a jack-of-all trades, and I explore my creativity in a variety of mediums and styles. Currently, I assist the elder in residence at the local college (Canadore), and I teach a dual credit for Indigenous Wellness for youth in the fall. I volunteer in and around the community for teachings and workshops, including facilitating women’s singing and drumming at a local high school. I previously worked in Indigenous social work full time, which didn’t allow much exploration for my artwork. Since stepping back from that position, I’ve been catching up on personal projects for ceremony and the odd commission before starting up on dream research and art projects.
Our mission is to foster connection, opportunity, and knowledge-sharing for those who create (Oshichikesiwuk). In doing so, we empower the voices of Mushkegowuk Cree to express the sacred connection between our people, water, land, and all our relations.
We envision a future where the voices of Omushkegowuk creators (Oshichikesiwuk) are empowered and valued, ensuring a legacy of harmony between culture and sustainability that resonates through generations connected to the James Bay Coast (Nanipek).
