My name is Jay Brant Monture and I am a visual artist from Moose Cree First Nation and Six Nations of the Grand River. I have been painting since my youth and my favourite style has always been Cree Woodland Art and Mushkegowuk Beadwork and my art hero is Noval Morrisseau. I usually work with acrylic onto canvas and recently acrylic onto foam as you can cut foam into shapes to enhance the art pieces. I am also into designing stage back drops for live events. I love to combine our Mushkegowuk floral patterns with light to enhance live and cultural events in our homelands. I was a mobile DJ for many decades, and it naturally transformed into live sound and lighting technician over the years, and I enjoy the opportunities and projects that need live sound and lighting. In the future I hope to get into designing apparel and sculpture art. Many Miigwetch’s.
Our mission is to foster connection, opportunity, and knowledge-sharing for those who create (Oshichikesiwuk). In doing so, we empower the voices of Mushkegowuk Cree to express the sacred connection between our people, water, land, and all our relations.
We envision a future where the voices of Omushkegowuk creators (Oshichikesiwuk) are empowered and valued, ensuring a legacy of harmony between culture and sustainability that resonates through generations connected to the James Bay Coast (Nanipek).
