My name is Janie Kataquapit and my spirit is Blue-sky woman of Eagle Clan. I am from Kattawapiskak (parting rock of the river), formally known as Attawapiskat. I am a mother of 4 and 2 grandchildren. I am a Jingle dress dancer and also part of Weekajahnashuk hand drum singers.
I am also a quilter, regalia maker, a painter and a beader. I facilitate workshops and also train staff to become professional makers. Aside from this, I earned my Social Service Worker and the majority of my background has been a frontline worker.
I also earned my Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Culture from Nipissing University with a minor in Indigenous Studies and Spanish history. My dream is to be part of showcasing our rich history to the world. In doing so, our way of life can be passed down to many generations coming and have a rightful place to tell the world who we are!
