I am Evelyn Turner. Currently residing in North Bay, Ontario Canada. I was born and raised in Attawapiskat, Ontario a remote fly in only reserve located along the coast of James Bay. My family roots are from Weenusk First Nation of which I am a member and proud to be Cree.
I started crafting at an early age learning from my mom. Many hours were spent together beading and sewing. I mainly work with seed beads and leathers, usually doing floral or animal patterns. What I am known for is my earrings, from hoops to fully beaded patterns. I do like doing a variety of products such as earrings, bracelets, necklaces, barrettes, medallions, card holders, purses, mitts and ribbon skirts just to name a few.
Our mission is to foster connection, opportunity, and knowledge-sharing for those who create (Oshichikesiwuk). In doing so, we empower the voices of Mushkegowuk Cree to express the sacred connection between our people, water, land, and all our relations.
We envision a future where the voices of Omushkegowuk creators (Oshichikesiwuk) are empowered and valued, ensuring a legacy of harmony between culture and sustainability that resonates through generations connected to the James Bay Coast (Nanipek).
