Biography

A proud Cree woman, born October 31st 1940 in Missanabie Ont. Family of eight siblings that attended residential schools. At St. Johns IRS in Chapleau at the age of five and moved to Shingwauk IRS in Sault St. Marie from 1947 to 1953. Moved to the west coast for next 20 years. Attended and graduated from 2 native colleges with buisness administration. Was called home in 1995 and was successfully voted in as Chief of the Missanabie Cree First Nation, serving two terms. Enrolled and graduated from Algoma University in 2009 with a fine arts degree. Served as first Chancellor of Algoma University for five years. Co-founder of Children of Shingwauk Alumni Associationin 1990 and have been very active in bringing the ‘Resdiential School’ story forward up to and including the Truth and Reconciliation, building the finest archives in Canada, honouring residential school children who passed through the system with some never to return home. REcieved an honory doctorate of fine arts from algoma university in June 2025.
