Oshichikesiwuk Nanipek (ᐅᔑᐢᒋᑫᓯᐧᐊᐠ ᓇᓂᐯᐠ) is a collective of Omushkegowuk artistic and cultural practitioners from the James Bay, Treaty 9 area. This collective brings artists together to enrich and preserve contemporary and traditional practices, empowering creative voices to support social justice, environmental and Indigenous rights, and healing.
In Cree, ‘Oshichikesiwuk Nanipek’ (ᐅᔑᐢᒋᑫᓯᐧᐊᐠ ᓇᓂᐯᐠ) translates to ‘those who create along the waters of the coast’. Oshichikesiwuk, or ‘those who create’, represents the rich traditional and contemporary artistic and cultural practices found in Omushkego communities. Nanipek, or ‘the water of the coast’, reflects the strength of our nation’s connection to land and culture; even separated by vast distances, we are connected through waters of the James Bay Coast.

Our mission is to foster connection, opportunity, and knowledge-sharing for those who create (Oshichikesiwuk). In doing so, we empower the voices of Mushkegowuk Cree to express the sacred connection between our people, water, land, and all our relations.
We envision a future where the voices of Omushkegowuk creators (Oshichikesiwuk) are empowered and valued, ensuring a legacy of harmony between culture and sustainability that resonates through generations connected to the James Bay Coast (Nanipek).
